With only four days until its season opening tilt versus Fort Lewis, the Montana State football program has named its starting quarterback.
Redshirt freshman Denarius McGhee was chosen by head coach Rob Ash and offensive coordinator Brian Wright as the starting quarterback.
McGhee and backup Cody Kempt were informed yesterday before practice. Ash revealed the information to the media today during the 'Cats weekly press conference. Ash cited the offensive productivity of the 'Cats when McGhee was under center and the intangible traits they see in his game as determining factors in making the decision.
Ash was pleased with the way both quarterbacks handled the news, and noted McGhee is the clear starter and will not be splitting time under center. However, Ash says he hopes the opportunity arises this weekend to get Kempt some reps, provided the 'Cats have the game under control.
Montana State opens its season at home versus Fort Lewis at 1 p.m. Saturday
