A unique assisted living home is opening south of Butte to help developmentally disabled adults learn about ranching and other skills.
Farm in the Dell Butte is located in Buxton on 91 acres of land that will be used to house developmentally challenged adults and teach them to raise cattle and learn regular daily activities. The project was started two years ago and it is now ready to take six clients. Farm in the Dell is a non-profit organization with seven farms around the country. The latest farm will be managed by John Castle of Butte.
"We'll be raising cattle, pigs, chickens, goats and it gives them an experience where they're working with livestock which studies have shown help them become more self-sufficient," said Castle. "It gives them skills they wouldn't otherwise receive in a regular group home setting."
The home features a kitchen, living room, laundry room and a day room with a view of Fleecer Mountain. Farm in the Dell will hold an informational meeting at the Butte Chamber of Commerce Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.
