The Billings School District and RiverStone Health officials are keeping lines of communication open following the death of a Big Sky Elementary School student last week from H1N1 flu.
Some parents of students at Big Sky were upset to learn about the 6-year old kindergartner's death in the media, rather than from school officials.
But, school officials say they were not made aware of the official H1N1 cause of death until after school got out last Friday.
Big Sky principal Sandra Mammenga explained the school's predicament in a letter sent home to parents on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Billings Schools Superintendent Jack Copps says he has talked with RiverStone Health officials about the situation and plans to meet within the next couple of weeks to make sure they're communicating well.
Barbara Schneeman with RiverStone Health says the relationship between the school district and RiverStone is good, and they'll continue to talk about the best way to work as partners responding to H1N1 in the Billings community.
