A ceremony to honor firefighters who fought the flames and helped get residents out safely at the National Hotel Building in Butte will be rescheduled

Five firefighters were to be recognized at Wednesday night's council of commissioners meeting. However, due to a mix-up and scheduling issues the firefighters could not be there.

Fire Chief Jeffrey Miller spoke about the bravery and selflessness of the firefighters. In return the audience gave a standing ovation.

Commissioners decided to reschedule the recognition ceremony for another night when all of the firefighters could be there. Commissioners said they would like to thank them in person. Residents of the National Hotel Building also showed up to Wednesday night's meeting with a cake for the men who saved their lives.

"I wanted to thank the firefighters for saving me and my daughters' lives. The morning of the fire we were trapped in the building and I appreciate their courage and bravery for coming and saving us," National Hotel Building resident RaeAnn Gwin said.

Gwin said she will come back when the firefighters can be at a meeting to be honored so she can thank them in person. No date for that has been set yet.
