A 5 year old boy drowned Sunday evening at Spring Meadow Lake in Helena. Authorities responded to the lake just after 5:30pm. Callers reported a boy had slipped under the water and had not resurfaced.

Helena Fire, Helena Police, and Lewis & Clark County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched. After a brief search, rescuers were able to recover the body of the young Helena boy. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton does not believe the boy had a life jacket or floatation device of any kind.
