KALISPELL- A 67-year-old man visiting from Colorado drowned on Tuesday afternoon in the North Fork of the Flathead River.
Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says dispatchers received a call of a possible drowning at 1:45 p.m.
The victim had been fishing near Camas Creek with a local relative when the pair became separated from each other's sight by a bend in the river.
Curry says that when the relative went downstream to check on the victim he could not find him, so he left the area to call for help.
Rescue crews later found the man under the water about 100 yards south of Camas Creek, according to a news release.
The victim was wearing waders, but was not wearing a life jacket.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene, and Curry says they are still working to determine the cause of death.
The victim's name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
Rescuers from the Flathead County Sheriff's Office, North Valley Search and Rescue, and the ALERT helicopter all responded to the scene.
