The newly appointed commissioner of higher education is delivering his goals to the education community.

Commissioner Clayton Christian held a question and answer session at Montana Tech Thursday afternoon where Tech's place in the University of Montana system was a hot topic.

Questioners were concerned that Tech might have to change its programs to fit into the UM group of universities. One even asked if it would be the University of Montana Butte in a few years.

The commissioner calmed those fears.

"Tech's place is where it's been. I mean, it's a world leader in the science, minerals, it has its place. Montana Tech has its own unique niche within our system and the country and we won't do anything to damper that. All our efforts will be to help foster that," Christian said.
