This summer the community is invited to get involved with aerial imaging to build maps of the area.
Mathew Lippincott with the Public Laboratory for Technology and Science says he's in Butte for the next six weeks to hold workshops and mapping expeditions. He says they will be focusing on the Centerville area and taking old plots and comparing them to new aerial maps they want to make this summer that will look like this example from California.
They'll be creating those new images by building kites and balloons and putting digital cameras on them, then flying them over the community.
"Really good maps and community accessible tools let people take control of the development process and how do I want it to look in the future?" Lippincott said.
Anyone is welcome to come out and build their own aerial photography kites and balloons and help with the project. Workshops will be Tuesdays and Thursday at 7 p.m. and every Saturday there will be mapping expeditions.
It kicks off Saturday at 10 a.m. at 66 West Park Street.
