Scientists report earthquakes in the southwest Montana/northwest Wyoming region.

A computer detected a 2.5 magnitude earthquake Wednesday around 2:40 p.m. The earthquake was about 14 miles north from Dillon and 20 miles west of Sheridan, according to the Earthquake Studies Office at the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology.

Around 4 p.m., a 3.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded 12 miles northeast of West Yellowstone, just over the Wyoming border.

Earthquakes between 2.5 and 5.4 can often be felt, but usually only cause minor damage.
