No one was hurt when a junk vehicle sparked an explosion and fire at a Butte recycling plant Wednesday afternoon.
A junk vehicle exploded late Wednesday afternoon as it was going through a crusher at A & S Metals on Meadowlark Lane, Butte-Silver Bow Fire Marshal John Lasky said. The vehicle was a small four-door passenger car. Lasky says fuel left in the vehicle triggered the explosion and fire.
Only one employee was in the crusher building at the time of the incident and escaped unharmed.
The fire produced heavy smoke with about two gallons of fuel burned. The fire resulted in minimal damage to the building.
