Fundraiser set up to restore water at historic Butte brothel

BUTTE - The owners of the historic Dumas Brothel in Butte are trying to restore water service to the building for the first time in 13 years.

The owners will have to pay Butte-Silver Bow to replace and reconnect the water main on Mercury Street. Then, the brothel will have running water and a working restroom.

Michael Piche and Travis Eskelsen took ownership of the brothel in June 2012. Since then, they've paid almost $6,000 in delinquent property taxes that accumulated over the years.

They've also restored natural gas service for the first time in 12 years.

Nearly four tons of debris has been removed from the interior. Five sky light glass panes that are broken or missing will be replaced.

The owners hope to eventually open the historic brothel as a museum/bed and breakfast.

The brothel owners have set up an account to help restore water.
