GREAT FALLS - The ban on using cell phones while driving in Great Falls is now in effect.
Deputy City Manager Jenn Reichelt says that the ordinance restricts the use of hand-held communication devices within city limits while operating a vehicle or bicycle, and requires drivers use a hands-free device if they choose to talk on their phones while driving.
A news release states that in order to be in violation of the ordinance, the infraction must be witnessed by an officer. Police will not investigate call-in complaints.
Drivers who violate the ordinance may face a fine of between $100 and $500.
