The Helena Independent Record and the Montana Standard laid off a handful of employees this week.
Staff members have confirmed positions have been entirely eliminated at the Independent Record, while others are being offered relocation packages.
IR publisher Randy Rickman declined to comment at this time.
A Montana Standard sportswriter posted an update on his Facebook wall that the sports editor had his position eliminated.
Sources tell Montana's News Station that the positions vary from the newsroom to the sales office.
This news comes several months after Lee Enterprises, the parent company of the paper, filed for bankruptcy, and also began limiting page views on its website after implementing a "pay wall."
The St. Louis Business Journal is reporting the Lee Enterprises Board just approved a $500,000 discretionary bonus for CEO Mary Junck. The Journal reports the bonus was due to the company's successful refinancing.
