ST. IGNATIUS - A 71-year-old man died Saturday afternoon after falling about 200 feet from a hiking trail near St. Ignatius.

Lake County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Karen Sargeant said the man was hiking with his family at the Garden Wall near Mission Falls around 3:00 p.m. when another group of hikers saw him fall.

First responders have not yet been able to remove his body from the area.

A helicopter was on scene Saturday evening but Sargeant said windy conditions made getting to the location very difficult.

The man hasn't been identified yet.

Sargeant said Lake County and Confederated Salish Kootenai Tribal authorities are working together to try and get the victim out of the area.
