MISSOULA - Missoula police are looking for a burglar surprised by housesitters at a home on 38th Street.
Police said Thursday, just after 10 p.m., people "house sitting" a residence for homeowners who were away arrived to residence and saw a man inside the house. The house sitters said they went in to confront him, and the suspect took off and threw the handgun as he ran.
Police said the handgun belonged to the homeowners, but the man was also carrying a rifle. Investigators say it's unclear if the suspect still has it and whether it's stolen property.
If you have any information on the burglary, call Missoula Police at 406-552-6300 or Crimestoppers at 406-721-4444.
