BUTTE - The National Weather Service says rivers may begin to form ice jams as the cold temperatures lingering in valleys cause ice to form on area rivers.
The increasing amount of ice can create the right conditions for ice jamming in rivers.
Not any river in particular is at risk, but smaller rivers with smooth flowing stretches are more likely to jam.
An ice jam is also more likely to build up in sharp river bends or near islands.
