Laurel Staples is a news anchor for KXLF-TV in Butte. Besides anchoring the 5:30 and 10 p.m. broadcasts, she works as a producer, reporter and photographer. Laurel joined the KXLF news team in 2004 as host of the noon news public affairs segment, Montana Spotlight.
A native of Polson, she received her degree in radio-television from the University of Montana in Missoula in 1988. She interned as a news reporter at KECI in Missoula and was a reporter at KTVH in Helena. She also worked as a general assignment reporter at KPAX in Missoula. She worked in corporate public relations for PNC Bank in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before moving to Butte 11 years ago.
Laurel is the winner of the 2009 E.B. Craney award for Program of the Year for coverage of the Mansfield Metcalf Dinner in Butte that featured then presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. She was the 2008 E.B Craney award runner-up for Program of the Year for Face the State - Evel Knievel.
Laurel is married to Butte native Tom Staples, a financial adviser, and has three children.

Laurel,
Congratulations on your award. Tonight, you mentioned a e-waste recycling event at "MCAT" on Thursday. What is "MCAT" (my spelling)????? You guys cover Bozeman, Dillon, Butte and the Deer Lodge Valley. Sometimes you use names that not all will understand, especially if they - like me - are fairly new to the area. It is expecially bad with advertising. When you do not mention the city, I often have no idea where a business is located.
