A moratorium on new medical marijuana businesses in Silver Bow County will come before council again at next week's meeting.

Council chairman Dave Palmer requested council place a moratorium on issuing new medical marijuana business licenses in the county Wednesday night. Council did discuss the issue at length Wednesday evening then put it to a vote. It passed six to four; however, the county attorney then advised council on procedures. For a moratorium there needs to be an ordinance and two thirds of the council must approve the ordinance.

With only 10 members present at Wednesday's meeting it was decided to reconsider the issue at next week's meeting.

The proposed moratorium would not affect existing medical marijuana businesses, they could still operate. There are currently 15 medical marijuana business licenses in the county.
