According to the Chamber of Commerce website, the annual duck races have been cancelled "due to unforeseen circumstances."
The chamber's Executive Director, Marko Lucich, says not to worry. The races will most definitely be re-scheduled.
The unforeseen circumstances, Lucich says, were a result of a recent switch in leadership at the Butte Quality Inn.
Lucich was not aware the Quality Inn had switched managers, and the new manager was unaware of the duck races. The manager told Lucich he needed to consult the owners of the Quality Inn for permission to run the races behind the hotel.
While the chamber ultimately received permission to run the races, it was too late to keep the same date.
Michael Creekmore, manager at the Butte Quality Inn, says he would be happy to host the duck races at the hotel and is waiting for notice from the chamber.
Lucich says the duck races will be re-scheduled for the very near future.
