Wednesday in the KXLF-TV studios $160,000 was given to Farm in the Dell International
Evan Smalley, owner of the Toy Ranch in Helena, handed over a check to Lowell Bartels, the President of Farm in the Dell International. The money is to purchase 91 acres of land near Buxton, south of Butte. The land will be home to a new Farm in the Dell, which houses, employs, and trains people with developmental disabilities. Smalley says he's doing this to remember his wife Loretta.
"She got us started in contributing to charities and she passed away five years ago so I just wanted to do something in her memory," says Smalley.
Bartels hopes to break ground on the $1,000,000 project in early March. It'll house about 18 people and bring about 30 new jobs to the area. When it's completed AWARE Inc will operate the Farm in the Dell. On site there will be cattle raised and greenhouses growing fresh fruits and vegetables. The cattle will be raised chemical free for autistic children and the fruits and vegetables will be sold. Bartels, CEO of AWARE, Inc, Larry Noonan, and Butte Silver Bow Chief Executive Paul Babb are all very excited for the project and how quickly it's moving forward.
Noonan expects the farm to be up and running in the fall. If you'd like to contribute to the project contact Richard Saravelli at 406-465-6882 or Lowell Bartels at 406-449-9394
