What started as a small race to honor the life of missing Sidney teacher Sherry Arnold has now turned into a nationwide event.

Sherry's cousin, Beth Risdon of Colorado, posted the run on her blog and has received hundreds of emails from people planning to run in places across the country and as far away as Thailand and Egypt.

Risdon is encouraging runners to visit her website (shutupandrun.net), print out a bib with Sherry's picture on it, pin it on their shirts and then run.

"My hope for that day is that people simply wear the bib with her picture on it and go out there with the intention to think about her, and for healing and for positive energy," said Risdon.

Arnold, a 43-year-old teacher in Sidney, went for a run on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 7 and hasn't been seen since. Two men have been arrested and charged with kidnapping in her disappearance; officials are continuing to search for her body.

In Bozeman, two organized runs are planned.

The first takes place on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 9 a.m. It starts in the Valley West subdivision north of the Ridge Athletic Club.

Also, the Big Sky Wind Drinkers running club is organizing a run in Bozeman. It will be held Saturday during the 33rd annual Froze Nose Fun Run, which is also serving as a memorial for Sherry Arnold. Optional bibs and a donation envelope will be available. The 1, 3, and 5 mile runs will begin at 9 a.m. at the corner of Grant & 11th on the Montana State campus.

In Butte, the Butte Family YMCA in conjunction with their Lighten Your Load campaign and Shut Up and Run will be participating in the virtual run in honor of Sherry Arnold on Feb. 11. Run participants should meet at the Butte Plaza Mall by 8:15 a.m. and are asked to use the main northwest entrance. Race maps and honorary runner bibs will be available. In addition, this week's Lighten Your Load community workout will be dedicated to the memory of Sherry Arnold.
