Gov. Brian Schweitzer will meet with oil producers from Montana and North Dakota this week to discuss the Keystone XL Pipeline, a TransCanada project.

The meeting will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lewis and Clark Room in the student union building at Montana State University Billings on Wednesday. Also on hand will be North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven.

TransCanada is planning and permitting a large crude oil pipeline from northern Alberta to oil refineries in the gulf coast with more than 250 miles of this pipeline planned to fall in Montana, according to a news release from the governor's office.

This meeting will provide an opportunity for oil producers in Montana and North Dakota to discuss the possibility of an on-ramp for the TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline.

Schweitzer has met with TransCanada to discuss such an on-ramp that might help reduce or eliminate the current market discounts that currently affect the price received for oil from Montana and North Dakota because of pipeline constraint issues and might also accelerate the development of Montana and North Dakota oil resources, according to the news release.

Montana and North Dakota are the only two states to have increased oil production over the last several years.
