A 51-year-old Utah woman who was hit by a train in Billings on Wednesday is in critical condition at Billings Clinic.
She apparently stepped out in front of the train, according to witnesses. It happened at about 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of Laurel Road and Moore Lane.
The woman was taken to Billings Clinic with life-threatening injuries.
Billings Police Lieutenant Kevin Iffland says the woman stood by the crosswalk, saw the train about a quarter of a mile down the tracks and then walked out onto the tracks and stood in front of the train.
The train attempted to come to a stop before coming to the intersection.
