A 22-year-old Bozeman man is dead after being struck by a semi-truck on April 15.
The driver told Montana Highway Patrol that Sha ‘Del Hollis had been lying on his chest on the median of I-90, and when the truck approached, he darted into the roadway. Hollis was struck by the front right corner of the truck at 7 a.m.
Hollis was taken to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, where he was declared brain-dead at 9 a.m. the next morning. He was kept on life support until April 20, to facilitate organ donation.
The driver is not facing any charges.
Another semi-truck driver driving past Hollis earlier in the morning told MHP that Hollis was walking eastbound on the median. As he drove closer, Hollis walked out onto the segmented white lines, causing the truck and a passenger vehicle behind it to serve in order to avoid hitting him.
Hollis’ intentions are unknown, and the presence of alcohol or drugs is still being investigated. It is also unknown if Hollis had any mental illnesses.
