Active Weather Continues For Butte Tonight

Posted: Updated:

Active weather pattern continues to impact much of SW Montana this afternoon and evening. Butte has seen steady snowfall all day and that trend should continue into this evening.

Greatest travel impacts will be over mountain passes this evening and Homestake Pass on I-90 eastbound lanes have been closed most of the day with jack knifed semi's. I posted a special edition on demand video forecast on travel impacts so please check that out if you plan on traveling tonight. CLICK HERE

Winter Storm WARNING continues for most of SW Montana through early Thursday morning. Above 5,000' additional snow accumulations are likely and the greatest travel impacts will be over mountain passes. Valleys could also see minor snow accumulations tonight. As temperatures dip below freezing wet roads could become icy.

Winter Weather Advisory continues for Gallatin, Broadwater and Meagher counties through Thursday morning as well. Snow accumulations should be a little lower than the rest of SW Montana but snow covered slushy roads could be icy overnight especially for Bozeman pass and in the West Yellowstone area.

Watch this short on demand video forecast as I walk you through the forecast models hour by hour showing you the timing, location and intensity of the snow to impact SW Montana through Thursday morning. Updates on this storm are coming up tonight at 5:30 pm and 10 pm on KXLF.
