Butte looks to homeless solution

BUTTE -

Butte's chief executive has called for a public meeting next month to address Butte's homeless problem.

Dave Palmer has invited several community organizations to meet at the Copper King Hotel to find solutions to handle the city's homeless issue after the Butte Rescue Mission closed down earlier this year due to fire code violations.

Palmer said they will consider establishing temporary housing throughout the city instead of building one shelter for people left homeless.

“The very next day services would be offered to those people whether it would be health issues, counseling or even rapid rehousing, maybe give them a voucher to get into their own place,” Palmer said.

The meeting is Aug. 7th at 7 p.m. at the hotel on Harrison Avenue.
