Family and friends of Melissa Barnes, the Bozeman woman who was killed by two dogs late last month, gathered at Smith’s Grocery Store today for a fundraiser.
Smith’s provided burgers and hot dogs to be served to passerby, who were encouraged to make donations to help Barnes’ family pay for the costs of losing a loved one.
“The family has had numerous members who have worked [at Smith’s] and some who still do work here, and with an unexpected death, there’s a lot of expenses that come into play, and the family could really use some help,” said family friend Heather Combs.
And Combs was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the Bozeman community; “It’s been phenomenal today, along with the messages on Facebook and people just contacting and wanting to help, and as everybody knows Bozeman is a fantastic community, and we really appreciate all of the help.
The event lasted from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and if you weren’t able to attend, you can visit their GoFundMe page to make a contribution.
