BILLINGS -

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Michael O'Connor said the victim is a man in his 20s from Laurel, but his name has not yet been released.

O'Connor said the early Tuesday afternoon the investigation has so far revealed that for an unknown reason the driver went off the highway, overcorrected and the vehicle went into the median and rolled. The driver may have been ejected, he said.

At that point, the man was struck by at least two passing vehicles. O'Connor said investigators are trying to determine how many vehicles went through the crash scene.

It's unclear, Michael said, if the man was still alive at the time he was struck by the vehicles.

The highway was reopened shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Montana Department of Transportation.

One person was killed in a crash on Interstate 90 east of Billings early Tuesday morning.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Michael O'Connor said a male was westbound in a Chevrolet pickup truck when it rolled, crossed the median and went into the eastbound lane.

O'Connor said it appears the male was then struck by another vehicle.

The man has not been identified.

As of 8:30 a.m., the eastbound lanes on I-90 were still closed as investigators mapped out the crash scene.

O'Connor said he was still investigating the incident, including whether the second vehicle was still at the scene. He said he expects to have more information about the crash later in the day.

A fatal crash has closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 east of Billings.

The Montana Department of Transportation reports that shortly after 5 a.m. a crash at mile marker 467 blocked both eastbound lanes.

The Montana Highway Patrol has listed the incident as a fatal crash, but further information was not immediately available.

A detour was placed at the Pryor Creek interchange to reroute traffic onto Indian Creek Frontage to Arrow Creek interchange.

The agency advises motorists to slow down, expect delays and avoid the area if possible.

There was no information released on possible injuries.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
