BONNER – Democrat Grant Kier announced Tuesday night he’s challenging U.S. Rep. Greg Gianforte for his seat in Congress next year.
Kier is the former director of the Five Valleys Land Trust and the Bitter Root Land Trust. He made the announcement at the Kettlehouse Amphitheater.
“I fulfilled my dream of success because of the bedrock foundations of our country that ensure everyone has a chance to succeed. Quality affordable health care, public education, and clean air and water are what our children, and everyone in our state, needs to prosper,” Kier said in a prepared statement.
Kier is the second Democrat to enter the race against the Republican Gianforte, who won a May special election. Billings attorney John Heenan announced in August he’s running.
Gianforte has indicated he intends to seek re-election.
