Veterans honored at Stodden Park celebration

Posted: Updated:

BUTTE - The cold did not keep people in Butte from honoring veterans this morning during its annual outdoor ceremony.

A crowd of veterans and supporters gathered at the Veterans Memorial at Stodden Park to pay homage to all those who serve this country.

The event included an honor guard and speeches from representatives of Montana's congressmen. Sheriff Ed Lester spoke about his late father, who was a World War II veteran, and how it makes him appreciate the sacrifices of all vets.

“Because I know that all of the freedoms that I have enjoyed throughout my life and still today came at a great cost. That heroic Americans have paid for me over the hundreds of years, so I can live and raise my family safely in the wonderful place we call Butte, Montana,” Lester said.

The event concluded with the singing of America the Beautiful and the annual Veterans Day race.
