Skiers hit slopes as Big Sky Resort opens

Posted: Updated:

BIG SKY - Skiers traded mountains of food for the real thing today at Big Sky Resort.

The ski area south of Bozeman opened its season Thursday, with excited skiers turning out hours ahead of the opening to take advantage of the start to the season.

Big Sky reports it's starting the season with a 21-inch mid-mountain base depth and 32-inch upper-mountain base depth. More snow is possible tonight.

The resort added covered carpet lifts this year, with the goal of making below-freezing temperatures more bearable.
