Local shops thank customers with Small Business Saturday deals

Posted: Updated:

BOZEMAN - Small businesses all over downtown Bozeman were celebrating Small Business Saturday by giving discounts to all their customers.

For business owners like Chris Saboda of Bangtail Bike & Ski, it’s important to support local downtowns.

“I think is really important because you look at downtown businesses and small businesses, it is the heart and soul of industry in the United States,” Saboda said.

For Shanna Hamilton, co-manager of the Downtown Stores, it’s a chance to give something back to the community. “It’s a way for us to say thank you and we appreciate your patronage,” she said.

Vanessa Beverly is manager of Great Rocky Mountain Toy Company and sees the customer service local businesses offer as an appealing alternative to the big-box stores.

“Luckily in Bozeman, I feel like we have a great, great response and support for local businesses,” Beverly said.

Even customers share the gratitude business owners and managers feel, and both agree that supporting small businesses helps Bozeman grow.

“We support small business Saturday. We like to come out and check out local stuff that everyone’s making and spend our money locally here in town. It kind of helps the economy and keeps these mom-and-pop shops growing,” said customer Josh Borgman.

Added shopper Kodi Hardman, “I just think it keeps our downtown vibrant, something that is unique to Bozeman.”

With shoppers spending lots of time in our locally owned stores, it also helps support the staff to have a job that they can call home.

“What it does it supports not only my family, the owner’s family, everybody that works here. Supports us in our lives and we have really loyal staff and loyal customers who keep coming back and it keeps us in business. We’ve had people who’ve worked here for over 10 years and it’s like we are part of a family,” said Beverly.

There are 23 million small businesses in the U.S. that have created 8 million jobs since 1990. If you spend $100 at a local business, roughly 68 of those dollars stay in your local economy.
