Butte detective honored for commitment to investigating domestic violence

Posted: Updated:

BUTTE - A battered women's shelter in Butte honored a Butte police officer today for his dedication to investigating domestic violence incidents.

The annual Safe Space Officer of the Year Award was given to 11-year veteran Detective Josh Stearns during a ceremony at Metals Bar and Grill.

He was credited for his professionalism and going beyond the call of duty to help a woman who was threatened with a gun by a man last winter.

Stearns praised the shelter for its help in the case.

“They help so many different ways, they get them out of the situation, providing food, housing, getting lined up with restraining orders and make sure they follow through. They're professionals and they have experience in the field of domestic violence,” Stearns said.

This is the first time Detective Stearns has been given this award.
