Victim identified in fatal Butte pedestrian crash

BUTTE - The 76-year-old Butte man who died after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning has been identified as Dan Lean.

Lean was a well-known coach at Butte High School, coaching both basketball and football.

Butte-Silver Bow Coroner Lee LeBreche said Lean died from injuries resulting from the crash that happened in the parking lane in the 2900 block of Amherst Ave. about 6:35 a.m. Wednesday.

Lean was transported to St. James HealthCare in Butte and then to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, where he died from his injuries.

The motorist who struck the man remained at the scene after the accident. Butte police along with the Montana Highway Patrol and Division of Criminal Investigations conducted the investigation.
