Man fires gun as SWAT team attempts arrest

Posted: Updated:

HELENA- The Lewis and Clark Co. Sheriff says a man wanted for an alleged domestic disturbance fired a gun two times as law enforcement officers attempted to arrest him just before midnight on Saturday.

Stryker Navarre Miller, 21, is accused of 3rd Offense Partner or Family Member Assault, Strangulation, Assault with a Weapon and two counts of Criminal Endangerment.

According to the deputy’s report, law enforcement officers were dispatched to a residence on the 2600 block of Valley View Dr. just after 10:00 p.m.

The reporting party told deputies that the Miller had a gun, had pointed it at a woman and was riding around the property on a four-wheeler.

Deputies say when they arrived Miller fled on foot, but they were able to track him to a shed on the 2500 block of Prickley Pear Ave.  The affidavit says deputies surrounded the shed and were able to make contact with Miller via cell phone.

The affidavit says Miller refused to leave the shed and refused to put down the gun. The Lewis and Clark Co. Sheriff’s Office called in the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) to arrest Miller.

Police records say when the SWAT Team was attempting to arrest Miller he fired two shots through the top of the shed. The affidavit says Miller was arrested just before midnight.

Sheriff Leo Dutton says no deputies were injured during the arrest.

During an interview with deputies, the alleged victim said Miller had grabbed her by the wrists, threw her to the ground and strangled her until she backed out. Police documents say the investigating deputy observed bruising on the woman’s wrists and neck.

Miller will likely make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.
