Suicide hotline expects increased calls following Kidder death

Posted: Updated:

BOZEMAN - The Help Center located in Bozeman expects increased calls on its suicide hotline following the news that Margot Kidder’s May death was a result of suicide by drugs and alcohol. It says in the week following other celebrity deaths of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade, calls increased 150 percent.

“I think they were already suffering before Anthony’s death or Kate’s but maybe they didn’t know about the suicide hotline or maybe this spurred them on to say ‘oh there’s help and maybe I can call someone’,” said Kathy Allen Kinman Help Center Director.

Allen Kinman says she believes more awareness about the available resources is good. The Help Center is funded by the state, local non-profits and donations. Allen Kinman says it’s been operating for 45 years.

The hotline is available 24/7 by calling 406-586-3333.
