Search continues for man who reportedly drowned in Tongue River in Montana

Posted: Updated:

Update 9:15 p.m. - The search has been paused for the night and will resume Friday, Rosebud County Sheriff Allen Fulton said.

ROSEBUD COUNTY- Authorities are continuing to search for a 43-year-old man who slipped into the Tongue River Wednesday and reportedly drowned.

Rosebud County Sheriff Allen Fulton said a diver was dispatched Thursday in the area of the river where the man reportedly fell in but had no luck. A boat with a sonar was on the scene Wednesday to try to identify the location, he said.

Search dogs from the area and local with boats have pitched in to help search for the man, who was swimming with family, Fulton said.

The search will continue Thursday until it's too dark, he said.

The Rosebud County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page Thursday that it had received a call at 4 p.m. the previous day of a drowning in the Birney area of the Tongue River in Rosebud County.

This is a developing story.
