Spring is here and that means soon grizzly bears will be once again roaming the landscape.

During This Week in Fish and Wildlife, Montana This Morning’s Chet Layman talks with Morgan Jacobsen from the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks about some safety tips to remember.

This Week in Fish and Wildlife: Bears are beginning to stir

Jacobsen says to remember when the bears begin to stir they will be hungry, so avoiding kill areas and food sources is a good idea. He also urges anyone going in to bear country to take bear spray and know how to use it. Jacobsen says FWP includes bear spray instruction as part of hunter education.

He also says now is a good time to check your yards if you live in bear country. Make sure your garbage is not out, your bird feeders are put away and you don’t have anything that might attract them to your neighborhood. He also says the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee has great resources on its website. igbconline.org.
