SANDPOINT, Idaho – The investigation is still underway, but North Idaho detectives still consider a Spokane man to be the “primary person of interest” in the disappearance of a Montana womannow considered a murder victim.

Bonner County, Idaho, Sheriff’s Office investigators identified Wednesday the body found by a hunter in late September in a remote area southeast of Lake Pend Oreille as 27-year-old Mirissa Serrano.

He said she then joined him on a trip to his cabin in Lakeview, Idaho, where he says Serrano started talking about coming back to Montana and left him while he was sleeping in his truck.

The University of Montana student was working at K-T’s Hayloft Saloon in Lolo on the evening shift when she met Danny Neep. Seemingly on the spur of the moment, her family said she decided to quit and go with Neep. Neep later told the Spokane (Wash.) Spokesman-Review after his arrest on an outstanding warrant, Serrano had returned with him to Spokane, where he had a rented apartment.

“Mr. Neep is identified as the primary person of interest since he was the last person to see her alive. And all information is leading to him as being a part of her disappearance,” said Bonner County Undersheriff Ror Lakewold.

Neep is now serving prison time in Idaho for illegal possession of a weapon. And detectives are reviewing possible murder charges as they continue to investigate information from both Idaho, and here in Montana.

Keep had told the Spokesman-Review previously he wouldn’t think of hurting Serrano, and intended to help look for her when he was released.
