Gerald F. Sullivan died peacefully surrounded by his family on August 3, 2015. He was born September 16, 1936 in Butte to Ray and Hazel Sullivan. He attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and graduated from Boy’s Central High School in 1954. He was known for his tumbling abilities at Central and was often called “The Flying Irishman.” He enjoyed hunting, fishing and family camping. He had a great sense of humor and kept us laughing right up until his final moments. He met the love of his life, Dorothy Pomroy in elementary school and they became high school sweethearts. After graduating, Jerry entered the U. S. Navy as a Sea Bee and while on leave the following October, the couple was married at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. After his service, Jerry entered the plumbing trade where he worked for more than 50 years. He started his career with Murphy Plumbing and Heating, continued at Walsh Engineering and then started his own business Sullivan Plumbing and Heating, finishing his career working for the Butte School District. He was also a member of the Race Track Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. Dad served his country, his family and others throughout his entire life. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Dottie, son, Jerry (Beth) Sullivan, daughter Cheryl Sullivan all of Butte, Debbie (Lawrence Walchuk) of Hot Springs, Cindy (Jim Rutherford) of Lewistown, Mike Sullivan of Billings, Deanna (Toby Zangenberg) of Bozeman and Denise (Shane Reely) of Missoula. Brother Con (Nancy) Sullivan of Butte, sister Mary Lou (Darryl) Bruno of Florida, and Ray Ann Eck of Salt Lake City. He is also survived by numerous friends, cousins, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dad said his final goodbye as the 9:00 siren rang from the Race Track Fire Department. It would be his final call. He will be greatly missed.
Vigil Services will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Sunday, Aug. 9th starting at 5:00 PM with prayer service at 7:00 PM. The Mass of Resurrection will be held on Monday, Aug. 10th at 11:00 AM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Donations can be made to the Race Track Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of your choice.
