BUTTE – Sold-out fundraiser designed to help hungry students in Butte is set to begin Wednesday evening in the Mining City.

The annual Empty Bowls fundraiser is set to start at 6 o’clock in the evening at the Butte Civic Center Wednesday and about 900 people are expected to attend. The event will feature more than 1,000 handcrafted bowls that were made by local artists earlier this year. This is a major fundraiser for the Butte Emergency Food Bank’s BackPack Program that feeds needy school children.

“And if teachers recognize children that are chronically hungry, need food, they are put on a list and packets of food are delivered to these children discreetly every Friday,” said event organizer Darla Newman.

The event is expected to raise about $20,000 for the program.
