BILLINGS – A Billings family is carrying on the wishes of a girl who died from cancer in 2012.

The Lorenz family helps other families facing the same challenges.

The Third Annual Run for Love continues to grow and surpassed last year’s draw of 140 runners at Riverfront Park.

The money raised goes to help pay for medical and travel expenses.

It’s a cause that Cassie Lorenz, who died at the age of 17, started and her parents, Drew and Tina Lorenz, continue for her.

"Cassandra was just amazed that people that didn’t know us helped us,” said Drew Lorenz, who is president of the Cassie’s Gifts of Love Foundation. ”And that was a big thing for her and she was kind of the inspiration or she kind of wanted to start this thing to help other families. The problem was she passed away before we actually got started but on the other hand, we’re hopefully living out her legacy. It’s huge, especially for Tina It’s been a good healing thing for her. We just love helping the families."

Cassie’s Gifts of Love started five years ago.

The foundation has more events planned for May and June.
