WHITEFISH – A Whitefish man is in custody and accused of hitting two pedestrians with his vehicle while driving drunk.

56-year-old Jim French Jr. was arrested and charged with negligent vehicular assault, aggravated DUI and reckless driving.

The incident happened on Sunday, July 14 on Baker Avenue at around 6 p.m.

The pedestrians, a married couple from Georgia, were walking on the sidewalk when they were hit by a blue Ford Mustang.

Crash investigators say French turned north off 8th Street onto Baker Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle and drove on to the sidewalk.

The woman ended up going down a steep embankment, while the man was impaled by some branches on a tree.

Despite the seriousness of their injures, both are expected to survive.

French remains in the Flathead County Jail.
