The Bacon Rind Fire burning in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness and a portion of Yellowstone National Park saw minimal growth on Friday, according to InciWeb.
The current size of the Bacon Rind Fire is 412 acres. The fire is about 20 miles south of Big Sky and can be seen from Highway 191. Smoke may be visible from Highway 191 and is NOT threatening the road at this time.
Due to hazardous heavy dead and down timber as well as many standing dead trees, fire managers are not putting firefighters on the ground at this time. They are, however, looking for opportunities to engage the fire if it makes its way toward Highway 191 and private inholdings to the north.
No structures are currently threatened. There are two 20 person crews assigned to the fire, as well as two light helicopters.
The Bacon Rind Trail in both YNP and the Lee Metcalf Wilderness remains closed to the public.
