ASHLAND – One person is dead after a one-vehicle crash near Ashland in Rosebud County early Saturday morning.

A 55-year-old woman was driving a 2011 Chevy Traverse eastbound on Highway 212 when she lost control at mile marker 52, crossed through both westbound lanes of traffic and left the road sideways.

The vehicle went up the embankment and struck a tree. The car then vaulted over a fence line and struck another tree before rolling and coming to rest on its wheels.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was found in the passenger’s seat. She was responsive and talking before being extricated from the car.

Once removed, she was no longer communicating with EMS.

She was transported to Indian Health Services in Lame Deer and pronounced dead on arrival.

Speed is a considered a factor in the crash.
