Posted

MADISON COUNTY – The Virginia Creek Fire has more than doubled its size since Saturday and currently stands at 67 acres.

According to a Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest media release, the fire is 15% contained as of Tuesday.  Currently, there are still 47 fire personnel working on the fire including four engines, two water tenders, one helicopter and a 26 person hand crew.

The fire is burning in heavy concentrations and is being fueled by standing dead trees and logs on the ground.

The fire is five miles west of McAllister in the Virginia Creek drainage. Firefighters are planning to have a hose around the perimeter of the fire and Virginia Creek Road will continue to be closed to the public for safety.  Smoke will remain visible from Norris Hill to Ennis.
