Bacon Rind Fire grows, public meeting planned

Posted

The Bacon Rind Fire south of Big Sky grew again this weekend.

It’s now mapped at 973 acres and groups of trees were seen torching over the weekend and smoke continues to be seen over highway 191 near the border with Yellowstone National Park.

The blaze is burning in heavy down and dead timber in a particularly remote and difficult to access area.

Because of the fire, the first six miles of the Specimen Creek trail is closed.

There will be a public meeting about the fire Wednesday night at 7 pm in the Community Protestant Church in West Yellowstone.
