Fire Weather Concerns Friday Afternoon

Upper level Low is digging into the pacific NW Friday afternoon and a little monsoon moisture is lifting up into Montana producing several rounds of thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service has issued a “RED FLAG WARNING” for Friday afternoon and evening for SW Montana. The combination of dry and wet thunderstorms producing frequent lightning and gusty winds could produce new fire starts.

Much of SW Montana is now under STAGE I fire restrictions. This means there are restrictions on campfire use and smoking outdoors.

City by City Forecast:

BOZEMAN: LOW: 53°; HIGH SATURDAY: 76°. A few thunderstorms are possible Friday late afternoon to early evening. Watch for gusty winds and frequent lightning. Saturday will be cooler with a few scattered thunderstorms and cooler.

BUTTE: LOW: 46°; HIGH SATURDAY: 75°. Scattered thunderstorms likely Friday afternoon and a few rumbles are possible overnight. Look for a few more thunderstorms Saturday and turning cooler. Frequent lightning and gusty winds are likely with all storms but only a few will produce brief heavy rainfall.

DILLON: LOW: 48°; HIGH SATURDAY: 75°. Afternoon thunderstorms are likely Friday, some will produce brief heavy rain and hail along with frequent lightning and gusty winds. Scattered thunderstorms are likely on Saturday.

WEST YELLOWSTONE: LOW: 43°; HIGH SATURDAY: 69°. Mostly cloudy and hazy this afternoon with only a slight chance for a late day rumble. Saturday look for cooler temperatures and a few showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon.
