A Bozeman man accused of assaulting a police officer on Sunday was seen in Gallatin County Justice Court on Monday.

Clinton W. Hall, 39, was charged with felony assault on a peace officer and his bail was set at $100,000 due to his lengthy criminal history. According to officials, Hall has been involved in 41 cases, spanning 14 years, including a resisting arrest conviction in February 2019.

According to charging documents, Bozeman Police officers responded to a call on So. Tracy Ave. in Bozeman on Sunday, Jan. 12. A woman reported that Hall had been in a physical argument with her and pushed her down several times. The woman also stated that Hall had raped her.

When an officer told Hall he was being detained, Hall walked away from the officer. The officer attempted to grab Hall and place him in handcuffs. Hall reportedly grabbed the officer’s arm and caused the pair to fall down some stairs. Hall reportedly continued to fight with the officers, kicking him several times in the chest. When an additional officer arrived, the fight reportedly continued until a taser was deployed on Clinton and he was secured in handcuffs.

Hall could face up to $50,000 in fines (restitution possible) and 2 to 10 years in prison.
