BOZEMAN, Mont. – Vice President Mike Pence visited Bozeman Tuesday to rally support of Republican voters for Senate Candidate Matt Rosendale. The VP was in town for about 2 hours before taking off to another event.
Vice President Pence was the last to speak at the event following Matt Rosendale, Greg Gianforte, and others. Pence focused his remarks on what he calls success from President Trump’s actions. He specifically noted the high unemployment numbers nationwide.
With focus of the event being on supporting Republican policies and candidates, there was also a good amount of talk about Matt Rosendale’s history. Rosendale asserted his stance to only serve two terms.
“I pledge that I will not serve more than two terms,” said Rosendale.
Protesters began showing up at the same time as supporters starting lining up for the rally and stayed to wave signs as supporters drove away from the lone exit of the fairgrounds. One group organizing protests was Protect our Care Montana.
“We’re protesting against Kavanaugh and his focus on not supporting the ACA,” said Aly Russell with Protect Our Care Montana.
Inside the event, those supporting the Vice President and Rosendale said they saw protesters and hope both sides are being heard.
“Not always are the conservative voice heard as much as the other side,” said Brittani Stevenson. “We’re trying to get out more and make our voices heard too so the conservative side can stay strong.”
The event was scheduled to begin at noon but didn’t get underway with the main speakers until just after 1 p.m. The event was held at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds.
